Dr Barnabas Calder is a senior lecturer in architectural history at the University of Liverpool School of Architecture.

He specialises in British architecture since 1945 and has recently published Raw Concrete: The Beauty of Brutalism (Heinemann, 2016), described by Jonathan Meades as ‘part history, part aesthetic biography, wholly engaging.’

In his book he traces how concrete revolutionised the engineering and construction of the twentieth century and ushered in the greatest period of architecture there has ever been.
